Rose Swirl Birthday Cake

I made my latest cake for my mother-in-law Karen's birthday.  The inspiration came from this entry on iambaker's blog.  I love how fancy the rose swirls look, yet they are still simple.  I decided to add a second tier and a fondant bow and pearls to finish it off.  The cake was a 6 inch tier and a 3 inch tier, so I made some cupcakes to make sure there was enough to go around.  We brought it into her work and it was a hit!  I also got to use my fun black cake stand that my hubs got me for my birthday this year.  Hurrah!

  1. hi stacey! the cake and cupcakes are both so pretty! i really do love the rose swirl design. im looking forward to trying it myself. u mentioned the cake tiers was 6 inch and 3 inch. is that the height u were talking about or is that the dimension of the cake pans? im pretty new at cake baking so i was just wondering. Thanks! and nice work!

  2. Hello! The 6" and 3" are the size of the cake pans...my cake stand is only 7" in diameter so I wanted it to fit. :) But you could still use any sizes that you want. Good luck!

  3. I love your cake!!! It's beautiful!!! I love doing Rose swirl cakes but this is a lovely new idea. Can I ask you how you placed the top tier without spoiling the Rose swirls on the cake underneath?? Did you have to refrigerate the cake??
    Thanks
